Foraging Afloat is a kayaking tour and foraging experience which is part of NI Science Festival 2026.
Spring is arriving on Strangford Lough and with it the arrival of an array of seasonal wild food emerges from the land and water. Join Rory Martin of Strangford Lough Activity Centre and David Thompson & Celia Spouncer from Wild About Tours for a unique guide to the sights and flavour of the area. Foraging Afloat is part of Northern Ireland Science Festival programme of events for 2026.
Rory will guide a kayaking tour with some facts and folklore of the islands, castles rocks and wrecks. Rory grew up on the shores of Strangford Lough and has a real affinity for the area. Learn some local history, spot the wildlife and improve your paddling skills.
We will stop off at an island where David & Celia will share the salty delights and unique taste of Strangford Lough. David & Celia are senior ecologists, coast and countryside managers with 30+ years experience in conservation on Strangford Lough, few if any people know the area like they do. After your kayak tour, enjoy a foraging workshop, shoreside picnic and cooking on an open fire by Wild Kitchen Chef – Celia Spouncer.
